I had another day to myself chasing one of my favourites in the Bello River today – The good old Jewfish, and they were reasonably kind to me early on!
On the water around 7 and right at the bottom of the tide, there were a few schoolies in one of the normal haunts, and I managed to boat four, the largest being 75cm and had 2 in the first 2 casts!
Once the Jew went off, I cut through Back Creek and headed up the Kalang for a look. There were plenty of Bream hanging on the leases, and as they’ve been lately, they didnt seem to care much about the boat and would happily chew away on the drums even with the boat right on top of them. Unfortunately when they are like this its bloody hard to get them to eat as they seem to just be in the zone! I did manage 3 legal bream – all on surface. Sugapen 70 the lure that scored the fish.
The bite slowed during the day and it turned into a bit of a cruise – there were bream on the gravel beds up Kalang, could get them to follow but no hook ups, and eventually the time came and time had to be called.
