So yeah it’s been a while… again. But Im seriously going to try and do this more often and tell you guys about new gear I’m using!
Maybe if I keep it short and sweet I’ll get it out there more often, so thats going to be the purpose of this one – a couple of new bits I’ve been playing with that are catching fish!
First thing though is actually a little different. Ok so I love storage. Boxes, containers, compartments, anything designed to store other stuff. Don’t ask me why but I’m pretty sure every angler has some level of this obsession. I think mine may be a little worse than others considering my favourite aisle in the supermarket is the one with all the Sistema stuff in it…
Anyway talking Sistema, anyone who does have this dysfunctional storage obsession will know that its good stuff. Now they’ve got this new thingo out called a ‘Brilliance’ container. Its crystal clear, and little harder than the others, and wait for it… 100% LEAKPROOF. So of course what do you think my first thought was?
Yep – ‘How will that go for my Gulp?’
Ok so to say Im a sceptical person is an understatement, and considering that not even the bloody fishing tackle industry can make that claim and get it right, chances of this thing living up to that statement are slim. Well, I have to say – So far so good!
Ok some other stuff I’ve played with lately is the Geecrack Jigs. Fishing jigs is becoming a ‘thing’ in the bass scene now so I’ve been trying to get into it and learn a little, and I can definitely say that flathead like them ha! But so do the bass and I’m kind of working them out. The idea behind them is to imitate a yabby I think and I’ve played around with them using a Keitech Crazy Flapper and it really looks the part. Yabbies need warm water to breed and thats when the bass should really fire on these things so I’m going to persist with this as it starts to warm up and see how they go in the river.

Another newbie on the boat is the new Bassday Sugapen 58. Its a new smaller version and theres a couple of new colours too. Now I haven’t even tied this thing on yet but I’m still telling you about it because I am simply that confident that its going to be absolutely dynamite. One of my favourite finesse topwater lures I have ever used was the Daiwa Gekkabijin, but the problem with it was it was just a little too finesse. Its an awesome lure but you couldn’t put anything but the lightest trebles on it or it would be stuffed. Thats a problem when it comes to bream because they turn light trebles into spaghetti and you end up having to change one every fish. Well my first thought when I saw the 58mm sugapen was ‘A Gekkabijin that had hit the gym’ haha. Basically it comes with, and will handle those heavier trebles, and I think its going to be awesome come summer.

Ok thats all this time. Ill see what I find next week.
